Quick Understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP Models for CCNA 200-301

A model is a simplified representation of a concept or real-world system that explains how it works. In this post, I have written detailed notes on the OSI and TCP/IP models. These two models serve as frameworks for representing and explaining networking concepts and technologies. The OSI model has 7 layers and TCP/IP has 4 layers.

The OSI model explains networking concepts and helps with troubleshooting. We don’t use this model in everyday networking, but we refer to the OSI Model when we need to troubleshoot network problems.

The TCP/IP suite’s protocols define the rules for communication in modern networks. We refer to the TCP/IP model to discuss protocols.

These two models are different, but both are important. We should understand all the layers, as these models map to each other.
